Development on the Football Pitch – Are you onside?

Football Pitch Development

Word is spreading that the Parish Council may be revisiting the idea of building houses on the community football pitch. This was listed in the Parish Council minutes as an item to be discussed at the next Parish Council meeting on Monday 29th April 2024. This valuable open space was previously rejected as a housing site by the steering group due to:

  • Increased Traffic Congestion: Building here would worsen existing traffic issues on the surrounding streets which the working group advised would add to existing parking issues.
  • Environmental Impact: Development risks harming the adjacent SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest).
  • Loss of Play Space: If another suitable area for a football pitch could be found, couldn’t the existing football pitch be kept for recreational space the village needs?

Is There a Better Way:

While the steering group wisely rejected building houses on the football pitch, it’s good news that the Parish Council is now considering community benefits alongside housing options.

However, let’s not forget the bigger picture. The Neighbourhood Plan reflects a wider range of needs identified by residents, including essential amenities like a general store, healthcare facilities childrens creche etc.

We urge the Parish Council to ensure their plans address these other community priorities – the ones residents have clearly requested – alongside the needs of the football teams and any potential relocation of the football pitch.

Don’t Let the Parish Council Decide Without You!

  • This Neighbourhood Plan is supposed to reflect YOUR priorities, not just those of the Parish Council.
  • Demand transparency and a say in decisions that affect your quality of life.
  • Contact the Parish Council and Make your voice heard before it’s too late!

At the heart of the vision is a commitment to creating a beautiful place to live that all residents can be proud of whilst providing an array of benefits for local people, including much-needed highways improvements and an abundance of community facilities and green spaces for use by existing and future residents. The new homes will complement and respect the unique character of the local area through a thoughtful design.
